THE CLEAN UP DAY (LAUNCH PROJECT)
Location: Nsawam Coach & Taxi Station and Adamu Katakyie Community
Date: 11th October 2025
Overview
The Ohemaa Bea Adamu Katakyie Foundation (OBAK) proudly launched its first official act of service with a large-scale Community Clean-Up Exercise in Nsawam. The initiative focused on the Nsawam Coach and Taxi Station, one of the busiest and most central locations in the region — a daily hub for travelers, traders, and residents.
Over time, the area had become heavily congested with waste and blocked drainage systems due to high activity and neglected maintenance. The Foundation identified this location as a key starting point to demonstrate its commitment to practical, visible community action.
A dedicated team of over 40 workers, wearing OBAK-branded high-visibility vests, took to the task with passion and teamwork — clearing waste, declogging long-blocked gutters, and restoring cleanliness to the area. The transformation was immediate and deeply appreciated by station users and leaders alike.
Collaboration and Community Engagement
Beyond the physical cleanup, this initiative accomplished something far more powerful — it brought together stakeholders who had rarely collaborated directly before.
Key participants included:
Nsawam Station leaders and local transport operators
Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the regional waste management company (Nsawam Branch)
Nsawam Environmental Health Officers
With the Foundation’s coordination, these groups held their first open discussion about the ongoing sanitation challenges at the station — exploring how they could support each other to keep the area consistently clean and safe. This meeting marked a milestone in cooperation and community problem-solving.
The OBAK team then extended the cleanup to Adamu Katakyie, a local area over which Queen Mother Ohemaa Bea Adamu Katakyie and Nana Adamu Katakyie III preside as Queen Mother and Chief. Residents joined enthusiastically, taking pride in improving their surroundings and contributing to the Queen Mother’s vision for a cleaner, healthier community.

Celebration and Appreciation
Following the cleanup, all participants were welcomed at Katakyie Palace, where they were treated to warm meals, refreshments, and provisions in recognition of their hard work. Each participant also received payment for their service — a gesture of gratitude and respect for their contribution to the Foundation’s mission.
The atmosphere was one of pride, joy, and renewed hope as community members celebrated what had been achieved together. The day not only marked the official launch of OBAK, but also demonstrated its purpose: to serve with dignity, bring people together, and take action for lasting community development.
