THE OBAK FEST (COMMUNITY CHILDREN & FAMILY FESTIVAL)

Location: Adamu Katakyie Palace, Nsawam
Date: December 13th, 2025

Overview

The Ohemaa Bea Adamu Katakyie Foundation (OBAK) proudly hosted the OBAK Fest, a large-scale community children and family festival held at the Adamu Katakyie Palace, the home of Queen Mother Ohemaa Bea Adamu Katakyie.

The festival was organised as a celebration of unity, childhood, and community togetherness, providing a safe and joyful environment for children and families from Adamu Katakyie, Nsawam, and neighbouring areas. The Foundation identified the need for positive, structured community events that prioritise children’s wellbeing, creativity, and social connection.

On the day of the festival, attendance exceeded expectations, with over 250 children gathering at the palace grounds. The venue was transformed into a vibrant festival space filled with music, colour, laughter, and movement — creating an atmosphere similar to a large community festival and reinforcing the palace’s role as a centre for leadership, care, and unity.

Activities and Children’s Engagement

A wide range of activities were organised to ensure that children of all ages were actively engaged throughout the day. These included bouncy castles, face painting, inflatable football, archery, and various mini games designed to encourage participation, teamwork, and confidence.

Group dance sessions brought children together in shared movement and expression, while the dance competition added excitement and friendly competition, with prizes awarded to celebrate creativity and effort. The structured programme allowed children to freely move between activities while remaining in a safe and supervised environment.

The variety of activities ensured that every child had the opportunity to participate, regardless of age or ability, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to inclusivity and dignity.

Community Participation and Atmosphere

The turnout for the OBAK Fest was significantly higher than anticipated, highlighting the strong community demand for positive and child-centred initiatives. Children arrived from different neighbourhoods and backgrounds, creating opportunities for new friendships and shared experiences.

Parents, guardians, and community members expressed appreciation for the scale, organisation, and purpose of the festival. The atmosphere throughout the day was one of joy, unity, and pride, with the palace grounds filled with families celebrating together in a safe and welcoming space.

The event successfully brought together children from Adamu Katakyie and Nsawam, strengthening social bonds and fostering a sense of belonging across the wider community.

Food, Care, and Wellbeing

As part of the Foundation’s commitment to care and dignity, all children were provided with food and refreshments before the close of the festival. This ensured that the event supported not only enjoyment but also the wellbeing of every participant.

The festival concluded with a meaningful address from Queen Mother Ohemaa Bea Adamu Katakyie, who shared words of encouragement, unity, and hope with the children and families present. Her message reinforced the importance of togetherness, respect, and community responsibility — values that remain central to the Foundation’s mission.
