Programme Focus: Education Support, Youth Development, Community Care

Overview

The Ohemaa Bea Adamu Katakyie Foundation (OBAK) carried out an education-focused outreach initiative supporting two Makaranta schools in the Nsawam area — one located in Djankrom and the other in Adamu Katakyie, where Ohemaa Bea Adamu Katakyie serves as Queen Mother.

The initiative was designed to address practical educational needs while strengthening relationships between the Foundation, school leaders, and students. By providing essential learning materials, sports equipment, and direct financial support, the Foundation aimed to reduce barriers to education and create a supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive with dignity.

Visit to Djankrom Makaranta (Nsawam)

The first visit took place at the Djankrom Makaranta in Nsawam, where the Foundation team, alongside the Queen Mother, was warmly received by the school’s principal, leadership, and students.

During this visit, a bulk donation of school supplies was presented to the school, including:

  • Pencils, pens, rulers, sharpeners, and rubbers

  • Pencil cases and exercise books

  • Mathematics and science textbooks

  • Footballs, netballs, and volleyballs

These resources were provided to support both academic learning and physical development, ensuring students had access to materials that would serve them over a long period of time.

A meaningful discussion was held with the school’s leadership and students, focusing on education, discipline, encouragement, and the importance of community support. The meeting also marked the beginning of a continuous relationship, with OBAK expressing its commitment to offering support wherever future needs are identified.

Visit to Adamu Katakyie Makaranta

The initiative continued with a second visit to the Makaranta in the Adamu Katakyie area, where the Queen Mother holds traditional leadership. The meeting was held at the Adamu Katakyie Palace, creating a welcoming and culturally significant environment for the children.

Similar educational and sports donations were made, including:

  • Pencils, pens, rulers, sharpeners, and rubbers

  • Pencil cases and exercise books

  • Mathematics and science books

  • Footballs, netballs, and volleyballs

In addition to the donations, food and refreshments were shared with the children, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to care, dignity, and wellbeing.

The atmosphere during the visit was joyful and emotional. The children expressed their gratitude by singing in beautiful harmony for the Queen Mother, filling the palace with warmth, pride, and celebration.

Commitment to Ongoing Support

During the Adamu Katakyie Makaranta visit, the OBAK Foundation made a significant commitment to further support the children’s education. The Foundation pledged to:

  • Cover the students’ school fees for the next five months

  • Explore support for school uniforms

  • Provide assistance with food during school hours where needed

This commitment reflects OBAK’s belief that education should not be interrupted due to financial hardship and that children deserve consistent support to remain focused on learning.

Community Impact and Significance

This initiative was more than a one-day donation exercise. It represented a deliberate effort to create lasting impact through education, relationship-building, and sustained support.

By supporting two Makaranta schools in different communities, the Foundation strengthened trust and connection between families, educators, and traditional leadership. The provision of long-lasting supplies ensures that students will continue to benefit well beyond the day of the visits.

Most importantly, the initiative affirmed the Foundation’s values of care, dignity, and connection, demonstrating that meaningful support goes beyond materials to include encouragement, presence, and long-term commitment.

This project stands as a strong foundation for continued educational support programmes and future partnerships with schools across the community.
